| A Brief History
We founded Freedom Farm Stud in 1987 at our previous house at Debach, just north of Ipswich in East Suffolk and moved the stud to Newmarket, the centre of the thoroughbred world, in 1992.
The picture to the right shows the stud we created at Newmarket.
The mare with her foal is Golden Panda, who was named after a Chinese Restaurant in Ipswich. She won at Nottingham on the August 8th, 1988, which was a very lucky day for the Chinese.
Even if it wasn't for the bookmakers as she was not unfancied at 12-1 and Steve Cauthen rode her immaculately to win by a length.
The New Stud
We are now creating a new stud next to our house, having sold the current buildings and some of the land. The new stud will be a few hundred metres from its original location and will be a 'State of the Art' modern stud designed to be run in an efficient and relaxed manner.
The new buildings will be sympathetically converted from a listed Suffolk barn and the old cart sheds shown in the picture. They will feature high-levels of insulation, full closed circuit Internet-based CCTV for complete monitoring of the horses and underfloor heating. This will maximise comfort and usability, and minimise environmental and visual impact.
Tradition and Philosophy
Our tradition of producing high-class winners, like Diamond White, Grand Bank, Lionel, Keen Winner, Family Man, Don't Shoot Fairies and many others will continue without interruption.
We will still be offering homes to the mares of our long-standing customers and the high level service we have offered for the last twenty years will be maintained. Mares will be foaled, they will be taken to stallions in the Newmarket area and foals and yearlings will be prepared for and taken to the sales.
All at Freedom Farm, including our long-serving stud groom, Michael Cullen, and manager, Lyndsey Cooper, will be looking forward to the challenge of the future.
