Broodmare Syndicates

Breeding racehorses is a very satisfying business, even if it is something that doesn't normally make you large sums of money.

A broodmare syndicate works very much like a racing syndicate in that costs and returns are shared. But the big difference, is that it's a more long-term investment, as the mare can go on producing foals until she is around twenty years old.

For this type of syndicate, we purchase a mare in the range of thirty to sixty thousand guineas. Typically, keep costs are about five to seven thousand pounds a year, with stud fees in the order of about ten thousand pounds for suitable stallion. And most years there is a foal to sell. Or perhaps race yourself or as a syndicate!

If the progeny turn into good racehorses the price of future foals will increase considerably. So the excitement stays!
